Valentine’s Day Button Cookies

Looking at Valentine’s Day recipes, I often sigh and wonder how I’m supposed to wrangle my kids into sitting long enough to do the project, let alone match the author’s prowess in the kitchen. So here’s a recipe all of us moms can actually make with our kids — no matter what their age!

These button cookies can be made for any holiday, just change the color of the M&Ms and ta-da — easy sweets for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and even Halloween. And trust me, these treats are kid tested, dad approved.

Valentine’s Day Button Cookies

Ingredients:

  1. Square pretzels
  2. Hershey’s kisses, preferably the ones covered in striped white creme
  3. M&Ms (It doesn’t matter what kind. My boys picked peanut butter ones but it can be any assortment you choose)

Directions:

  1. Heat your oven to 200 degrees F. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil in case any of the chocolate melts through.
  2. Place the square pretzels along the baking sheet. It really doesn’t matter how close you space them.
  3. Place one Hershey Kiss on top of each pretzel.
  4. Place the cookie sheet in the oven for approximately 5 minutes or until the chocolate is warm enough to give to the touch but hasn’t visibly melted yet.
  5. Remove from oven and place a single M&M on top of each
  6. Place in refrigerator or cool place to harden the chocolate
  7. Enjoy!

We actually found them at Target but I’m sure you can find them in the pretzel section of your grocery store.

    1. I’m the same way… cooking or baking needs to be simple simple simple if it’s going to work for my boys. And we actually change this “recipe” (aka the color of the M&Ms) depending on the season 🙂

  7. Button Cookies – I was wondering what to call these. Thank you for sharing your step by step instructions 🙂 It was a popular post at our All Things Valentines link up party this month. Hope you come share your Spring-y ideas during March – our All Things Spring Link Up will be up and running on Feb. 28 http://wp.me/p3wgIf-xF

    1. So glad people liked them. They are so easy to make and perfect to make with the kiddos. It gives them the feeling that they are “cooking.” And to be honest, any time I bring them to a party they completely disappear. We never have any leftovers!
