How Owls Sleep

Owls sleep differently depending on their age and species.

Young Owls: Baby owls, or owlets, often sleep lying down on their stomachs with their heads resting to the side because their heads are too heavy to hold up while sleeping.

Adult Owls: Adult owls sleep perched on tree branches, gripping the branch with their strong talons. A special tendon in their feet locks them securely in place, preventing them from falling while they rest.

Owls are nocturnal, so they typically sleep during the day and are active at night.

They close their eyes or lower their eyelids, sometimes tucking their heads close to their bodies or turning them to the side for comfort.

How Owls See

Owls have amazing eyesight that helps them see well, especially at night.

Their big eyes let in lots of light, making it easier to spot things in the dark.

Unlike us, their eyes don’t move, so they turn their heads to look around — sometimes almost all the way behind them!

Their eyes work like tiny telescopes, helping them see faraway things clearly.

Plus, their eyes are great at noticing even the smallest movements, making them super hunters in the dark.
