Where Did Easter Egg Hunt Come From

The Easter egg hunt is believed to have originated in Germany during the 16th century.

Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer, reportedly organized egg hunts for children, with men hiding the eggs and women and children searching for them, symbolizing the discovery of Christ’s empty tomb.

For some added fun, have goggles and swim fins on hand for the kids.

How to Host Fun Easter Egg Hunt

Prep Your Materials

First, fill a large plastic bin with water.

You’ll need this to prep the eggs so they sink as well as for storing the eggs before you hide them.

As a mom, I found it easier to get the eggs ready a day or two beforehand rather than trying to get my kids to sleep and setting it up that night.

Prep Your Easter Eggs

Place 1-3 coins in a plastic Easter egg.

Before closing the egg, dip both sides into the plastic bin so they fill up with water.

While holding the egg under water, close the Easter egg.

You want to make sure there is no air in the plastic egg; otherwise, the egg will float rather than sinking to the bottom of the pool.

Store the egg in the water until ready – otherwise, the water will just drain out and the egg will end up floating.

Sink the Eggs in the Pool

The night before, head to the pool and scatter the eggs around the bottom.

You can choose to spread them out or cluster them together for added excitement.

Make sure the eggs are evenly distributed to make the hunt/diving challenging.

We would visit my folks in Florida and would put eggs in the hot tub as well for my younger son who didn’t want to swim down to the bottom to get the eggs.

Dive into the Fun for Fun Easter Egg Hunt

Once the eggs are in place, it’s time for the kids to dive in and start hunting!

Encourage them to swim around the pool, searching for the hidden treasures.

The excitement of diving for the eggs submerged in the water adds an extra thrill to the traditional Easter egg hunt.

Safety Note: As always – Supervise your children around any body of water.

Also, be sure you make sure kids do NOT dive head first into any pool.

Rather have them go feet first and then swim down to the bottom to dive for the fun Easter egg hunt.

Count the Coins

As the kids find the eggs, have them collect the coins inside.

You can even turn it into a friendly competition by awarding prizes for the most coins collected or the fastest egg hunters.

We chose to have everyone work together, however.

My boys would put all of their coins into the same pile and split them when done.

This Easter, take your egg hunt to the next level with an underwater adventure that kids will love.

By combining the excitement of hunting for Easter eggs with the fun of swimming in the pool, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to make a splash!

So grab your swimsuits and dive in – it’s time for an Easter egg hunt like no other!
