Apple Tree Supplies You’ll Need

Gather up these supplies to make this delightful apple tree craft.

How To Make Apple Tree Painting Craft

Prepare the Tree Trunk

Start by cutting out a tree trunk shape from the brown construction paper. You can make the trunk as simple or as detailed as you like, but ensure it’s large enough to be the central part of your tree.

Once cut, glue the tree trunk vertically onto the white piece of cardstock paper. Position it in the lower half of the cardstock to leave room for the tree’s leaves and apples above.

Set Up Your Painting Station

Lay down newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface.

Pour a generous amount of green paint and red paint onto a large paper plate. Keep them separate so the colors don’t mix.

Make sure each child has a round sponge brush for each color of paint.

Create the Tree Leaves for Apple Tree Painting Craft

Dip a round sponge brush into the green paint. Dab off any excess paint on the edge of the plate.

Begin pressing the sponge brush onto the cardstock around the top of the tree trunk. Continue dabbing to create a full, leafy treetop. Encourage the kids to overlap the dabs to give the tree a natural, textured look.

Add the Apples

Once the green paint has been applied for the leaves, rinse or switch the sponge brush to a clean one.

Dip the clean round sponge brush into the red paint. Dab off any excess paint.

Press the red sponge brush onto the green painted leaves to create apples. Space the apples out to make them look scattered across the treetop.

Finishing Up

Once the kids are satisfied with their apple tree, set the cardstock aside to dry completely. This might take a few hours depending on the thickness of the paint.

Clean Up

Use wet wipes or a damp cloth to clean the sponge brushes and any surfaces that may have gotten paint on them.

Dispose of the paper plate and any leftover paint appropriately.

Wash hands thoroughly to remove any remaining paint.
