Two Heart-Warming Books for a Snowy Day

March 1, 2013 by Mommy Evolution 20 Comments

With half of the country covered in snow, it seemed appropriate to highlight two lovable books about that fabulous fluffy stuff.

  1. Snow by Uri Shulevitz
  2. The Snow Globe Family by Jane O’Connor, illustrated by S.D. Schindler

Snow by Uri Shulevitz, available on amazon

One snowflake falls. Then another. Yet no one believes it will amount to anything. But a boy and his dog have faith it will become a winter wonderland. Uri Shulevitz has created a whimsical tale where a a child’s happiness and imagination can make us feel all warm and toasty … even on a snowy day.

In addition to the book, the author has created a wonderful audio recording that reflects his whimsical and joyous look at a boy, his dog and winter.

JENNY SAYS: This Caldecott Honor Book is a personal winner in our house. Your child will absolutely love Snow by Uri Shulevitz.

Snow Globe Family by Jane O'Connor

While it is snowing outside, the tiny family living inside a snow globe wonders when it will snow for them. If only someone would pick them up and shake the globe; however, only baby notices the tiny family.

JENNY SAYS:  In a world where only baby pays attention to the snow globe, will the child make it snow for them as well? And when? This book helps children think about the world from a different perspective other than their own. Old fashioned-looking illustrations and a sweet story make this book a terrific one to cuddle up with on a cold day.

Oh this is cute. Just last week I was reading a snow day book to our kindergarteners. I help in my kids school during the week. I’ll have to see about getting this one!

    Hi Jenny
Thanks for linking these great snow books into the hop. As a resident of the southern hemisphere, I don’t get to see snow very often, so these books will be great to explain it to Gigi, cheers Julie
