Today Thaleia from Something 2 Offer is today’s guest poster – she has a 2 year old son and a Kindergarten son who both enjoy hands-on activities.

Looking for fun and interactive ways to incorporate learning in our home is always on the top of my mind.

We have lots of fun little trinkets and items around the house that are perfect for an I Spy Number Tray.

I also had grabbed a deck of number cards that I had found at a garage sale a few years ago.

I got out our apple tray as the main tray for this activity which added in on the fun.

I set up the tray first with the items I had collected BEFORE I called the boys over to “investigate” with a magnifying glass to “SPY” the number of items that matched the card.

I was pleasantly surprised that Lil’ Red, my 2 year old, was able to pick up on this activity as fast as he did.

I placed items on the tray for each number from 1-6 all at once.

Big Red my 5 1/2 year old got right to work finding items to match the flashcard.

Once Lil’ Red saw what was going on and that we were counting things he immediately got to work.

He found two blue spoons!

This was a little bit of a surprise to me but not too much since he is the 4th child in our family.

Big Red found the peppermint candy decoration and proclaimed it as a 3, just as I had hoped he would!

Any parent, teacher, babysitter or grandparent can easily set-up an I Spy tray for letters, numbers, or seasonal objects after taking a quick tour around the house.

If you have toys from fast food restaurants, garage sales or gum ball machines then you have the supplies that you will need for a learning I Spy Tray!
