DIY Aromatherapy Pillow with Lavender Oil

As a mom, it’s tough to find time for myself.

I often discover ways to steal moments in the day to relax and keep myself centered.

With two boys, I’ve got to be at my best at all times and keep my cool!

To keep that Zen feeling, you can make your own frugal aromatherapy pillow using lavender oil.

It’s incredibly inexpensive and an easy way to build in some reset time for yourself.

To make the neck/shoulder pillow, you will need:

  • A tube sock (any sock will do)
  • Thread and needle
  • 8-10 ounces of dry rice
  • 15-20 drops of lavender oil Rice Photo

DIY Directions

  1. To make your personal pillow, fill a tube sock with dry rice so that is about two-thirds to three-quarters full. Be sure to fill it over a container or the sink so you don’t get rice on the floor.
  2. Add 15-20 drops of lavender oil
  3. Carefully sew the sock shut to avoid finding rice all over your house for the next six months. Make sure the stitches are close together; you’d be surprised at how easily that rice escapes.
  4. Microwave for 1-2 minute (make sure the sock and contents are not too hot) and apply as needed to help relieve neck and shoulder tension.

  2. After my family goes to bed. I make myself a cafe mocha and go outside and sit on the deck and just relax. I live in the country, so all I hear is crickets.

  4. We have a screened in back porch with rocking chairs looking over a small lake. Early morning zone out.

  8. I usually don’t. I think that is one of my problems. But ideally I would love to go to a spa once a month.

  9. I wake up an hour earlier than anyone else and with a hot cup of tea sit on our porch swing and watch the sun come up.

  10. I make some “zen” time by stepping outside every once in a while for some fresh air. Even just a few moments refreshes the body and soul. And leaves me leaving much calmer and happier.
