Back to School Shopping List
We all know how frantic things can get in that period before the kids go back to school. To make things a little easier for you, here’s a guide to each area of your back to school shopping list so you’ll know exactly what you need to get hold of.

Back To School Shopping List To Make Things Easier
While schools often send home shopping lists, they’re far from complete.
Don’t get caught without some of the things your child will need for the new school year!
School Uniforms or Clothing
Whether your child needs to wear a uniform or not, you’re probably going to need to buy some new clothes.
Go through everything they already have, get rid of anything irreparable or otherwise unusable and repair anything you can.
Then make your list.
Here are some essentials:
- New uniform in their size
- Hats
- Shoes
- Socks
- A new school coat
- Raincoats
- Snow shoes, etc. (It may seem early in the season but now’s you’ll get the best deals before winter)
- Anything else required by the school
Stationery Supplies
Next on your back to school shopping list is stationery.
Like before, go through everything you already own before making the list.
You have no idea how many times I have “shopped” my own home to discover we have a lot of the items.
It’s a great way to save!
Here are some essentials for your stationery list:
- Pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers
- Notebooks, paper etc.
- Scissors
- Glue
- Staplers, hole punches etc.
- Geometry set
- Calculator
- Binders
- Diary for homework
- Materials for covering notebooks and textbooks
The exact items you need to get depends on what your child already has and their age.
Check with their school if you aren’t sure about things like types of calculators etc.
Backpack and Lunch Supplies
- Lunch boxes
- Plastic bottles
- Any lunch foods you’ll need
- New backpack
Give your child a say when picking their new lunch boxes and backpacks, as they’ll be happier and will probably look after them better.
At the same time, make sure that the backpack has padded straps, is durable enough to last the year and is comfortable for the child to wear.
They’ll be carrying this every day for a long time, so it’ll also need to be durable and as resistant to dirt as possible!
Other Things You’ll Need
There are, unfortunately, more things you might need to add to your checklist that can’t be bought at the store.
For example, you’ll need to ensure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date and that you have any necessary records required by the school.
You’ll also need to get bus passes ready, iron uniforms, prepare lunches and gradually get your children used to being in a routine before school starts again.
Use A Printable Back to School Shopping List
It can be time consuming to go through what you already have and think carefully about what your child needs.
This is why many people opt for a printable back to school shopping list downloaded from the internet.
Just remember, these lists aren’t specifically designed around you and your child, so it may still be worth taking the time to create your own personalized list!
