Book about Snowmen for Kids

I’m staring out into our backyard. What was a winter wonderland covered in snow is now a rained-upon mess. (Sigh.)

I’m ready for snow snow snow. And I want it to stay.

I love how snow looks on the tree branches.

I love how snow looks when it blankets our lawn.

For many years on the first snow, my husband goes outside to shovel off the driveway.

Inevitably, he builds the first snowman in the front yard, just to give the kids a giggle.

As if this snowman has popped up out of nowhere. How could you not love that.

The boys think it’s awesome. I do, too.

Snowman Books for Children

The Snowman

Who needs words to tell a story?

In Raymond Briggs’s charming tale, told with 175 softly hued, artfully composed frames, a little boy makes friends with a snowman.

Snowmen at Night

This delightful wintertime tale reveals all! Caralyn Buehner’s witty, imaginative verse offers many amusing details about the secret life of snowmen and where they go at night, while Mark Buehner’s roly-poly snowmen are bursting with personality and charm.

Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? And you’ve wondered . . . what do snowmen do at night?

How to Catch a Snowman

Fans of the hilariously fun How to Catch a Mermaid and How to Catch a Dinosaur books will absolutely love this new Christmastime, winter adventure!

Our heroes' entry for the snowman contest has magically come to life—and ran away! Can YOU help catch it?

Get ready for snow much fun as you travel through a winter wonderland with running, skating, and bouncing through trap after trap to catch the snowman and claim the winning prize. Will the snowman teach our heroes a lesson they'll never forget? Who snows!

The Biggest Snowman Ever

When the mayor of Mouseville announces the town snowman contest, Clayton and Desmond claim that they will each make the biggest snowman ever. But building a huge snowman alone is hard!

They work and work, but their snowmen just aren’t big enough. Soon they have an idea.

As the day of the contest approaches, Clayton and Desmond join forces to build the biggest snowman ever.

The Itsy Bitsy Snowman

A fun and playful seasonal twist on “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” makes this favorite nursery rhyme perfect for wintertime!

Snowmen All Year

In this lighthearted, funny follow-up to the previous Snowmen bestsellers, our young narrator dreams of a non-melting snowman friend who joins him for all of the year's events.

They ride a roller coaster together, dive into a swimming pool in the summer, watch the Fourth of July fireworks, and trick-or-treat on Halloween.

It's hilarious, happy wish fulfillment that kids will adore.

Olaf's Frozen Adventure Little Golden Book (Disney Frozen)

Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf return in an all-new Disney "Frozen" holiday special set to air on ABC in November.

This Little Golden Book retells Olaf's holiday story with beautiful, vintage-like illustrations.

The Giving Snowman: A Children’s Bedtime Story about Gratitude

On a snowy night, Snowman lends a helping hand to Bird, Rabbit, Farmer, and Traveler when they are in need.

The next day when the sun comes out and melts Snowman, Bird, Rabbit, Farmer, and Traveler work together as a team to rebuild Snowman.

The Giving Snowman is a book about kindness and gratitude.

Children can learn through the story that giving to others is a virtue that connects all of us and makes our lives more beautiful.

Snowmen at Christmas

This snappy and entertaining companion to the New York Times bestseller Snowmen at Night depicts all the best parts of the holiday, replete with icy treats and a snowman Kris Kringle.

Told in the same bouncy verse as the original, Snowmen at Christmas is perfect for a snowy evening read-aloud.

Peppa's Christmas Wish (Peppa Pig)

Snuggle up with Peppa Pig in this 2-in-1 wintertime storybook! It’s Christmas Eve, and Peppa is hoping for a very special gift from Santa Claus.

Will her wish come true? Then, Peppa and George decide to build a great, big snowman.

Sneezy the Snowman

Snuggle up with Peppa Pig in this 2-in-1 wintertime storybook! It’s Christmas Eve, and Peppa is hoping for a very special gift from Santa Claus.

Will her wish come true? Then, Peppa and George decide to build a great, big snowman.

Frosty the Snowman (Little Golden Book)

Based on the beloved 1969 television special, this Little Golden Book retells the whole magical story of Frosty the Snowman.

Everyone’s favorite snowman with a magic hat, a button nose, and eyes made out of coal comes to life on Christmas every year.

Snowman's Story

One wintry day, a hat lands on the head of a newly made snowman and brings him to life.

Hiding inside the hat is a rabbit, who listens to the snowman read a story to some animal friends.

When the snowman falls asleep, the rabbit hops away with the book. But the snowman isn’t about to let his story — or the mischievous rabbit — get away. The chase is on!

Little Critter: Just a Snowman

Hooray! It is a snow day! And what a perfect time to make a snowman.

Little Sister needs help putting on her boots, Dad needs a hand with the shoveling, and Gator wants to build a fort.

Will Little Critter ever get to build a snowman?

Snowmen at Work

Ten years ago, on the publication of Snowmen at Night, we discovered the secret lives of snowmen.

While we humans sleep, the snowmen go sledding, play baseball, and drink cocoa.

But now it’s revealed that snowmen don’t just play all night — they have jobs to do, just like the parents of human kids!

Stranger in the Woods: A Photographic Fantasy

Winner of numerous awards, including the 2001 International Reading Association’s highest honor, this charming tale uses wildlife photography to tell the story of animals’ reactions to a snowman who appears in the woods after a winter storm.

Years after it was published, Stranger in the Woods remains a bestseller, with more than one-million copies in print and repeated appearances on the bestseller lists.

Snowmen at Play

This bright, busy, book will spark imaginations and creativity and is perfect for holiday vacations.

The cool, lovable Snowmen are back in this brand-new sticker activity book, packed with fun things to make and do.

Readers can help the Snowmen sit differences, make their way through mazes, create doodles, finish sticker puzzles, and much more.

Henry And Mudge And The Snowman Plan

Henry and his dog Mudge enter a snowman contest in this nineteenth Ready-to-Read book of their adventures.

Henry sees a sign about a snowman contest in the park!

Can Henry, his father, and his big dog Mudge come up with the best snowman plan to win the contest?

Snowman Surprise (Doc McStuffins)

Chilly the snowman accidentally changes color in this Little Golden Book retelling of a winter-themed episode from the popular Disney Junior series Doc McStuffins.

Kids ages 2–5 will love finding out how Doc gets Chilly back to his old self.

And they’ll learn that what matters most is what’s on the inside — not how you look on the outside.

Snowzilla

Cami Lou and her brother build the biggest, hugest, most mammoth snowman the world has ever seen.

It’s Snowzilla! The snowman becomes an instant sensation, and tourists pour into the small town. But not everyone is impressed.

Some say the giant snowman brings giant problems. Then a judge rules that Snowzilla must come down. Can Cami Lou and her brother save Snowzilla?

Snowballs

Children will love poring over Lois Ehlert’s bold, funny illustrations and identifying the common (and not so common) objects she uses to decorate her snowy family.

Pull on your mittens and head outside for a snowball day. Grab some snow and start rolling.

With a few found objects — like buttons and fabric and seeds — and a little imagination, you can create a whole family out of snow.

OLIVIA Builds a Snowlady (Olivia TV Tie-in)

Who says a snowman can’t be a lady? Olivia and her classmates are in charge of building the best snowman for the town’s Winter Festival and they decide to make this year’s snowman a snowlady.

When an unexpectedly warm, sunny day dawns the morning of the festival, the snowlady turns into a slushlady, it’s up to Olivia to come up with a unique solution and save the day!

I think I have read The Biggest Snowman Ever a few too many times with my kids. But as long as they love it. And we are getting some fresh snow right now. Kids are so excited.
