Children’s Books Featuring Frogs (Unit Study)

May 13, 2016 by Mommy Evolution 6 Comments

Reading frog books is a favorite activity of my boys.

What is it about frogs?

We just adore them! The best is catching them, if you ask my boys.

In addition to offering recommendations for frog books that kids will love and learn from, I’ve teamed up with some fellow bloggers to offer you homeschool and in-class frog unit study resources!

You can find these fun books for kids at your local library or purchase through the affiliate links provided for your convenience.

Frog Books for Kids

There is a local pond with a stream that we visit every Spring to try and see the tadpoles.

Later in the season, we love walking along the pond trying to spot the frogs — often you have to spy their eyeballs just sticking out of the mud.

The best way to find them is listen for their croaking.

Frog Books for Kids

I Don’t Want to Be a Frog

In this very silly story with a sly message, told in hilarious dialogue between a feisty young frog and his heard-it-all-before father, young readers will identify with little Frog’s desire to be something different, while laughing along at his stubborn yet endearing schemes to prove himself right.

Frog wants to be anything but a slimy, wet frog. A cat, perhaps. Or a rabbit. An owl?

When a hungry wolf arrives — a wolf who HATES eating frogs — our hero decides that maybe being himself isn’t so bad after all.

The Wide-Mouthed Frog (A Pop-Up Book)

From the Okefenokee Swamp comes a frog with a wide mouth that he just loves to use.

He’s particularly interested in the eating habits of other creatures found in the great outdoors — that is, of course, until he comes upon a big green one with lots of teeth who finds wide-mouthed frogs simply delicious.

From Tadpole to Frog (Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1)

From Tadpole to Frog is a lovely first look at this amazing metamorphosis.

Female frogs lay masses of jelly-coated eggs in the water, but what hatches from each egg isn’t a frog yet — it’s a tadpole.

Tadpoles are likely tiny fish that breathe underwater through gills.

As the tadpole gets older, it loses its fishy tail and its gills and grows legs and develops lungs. The tadpole has become a frog.

I’m a Frog! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

In I’m a Frog! Piggie has some ribbiting news!

Can Gerald make the leap required to accept Piggie’s new identity?

Frog on a Log?

The frog does not want to sit on a log. Doing his best to find an alternative place to sit, the frog asks the cat a litany of questions.

For every answer the cat has, the frog has another question — until the frog finds out what dogs sit on!

Frog and Toad Storybook Treasury (I Can Read Level 2)

Celebrate the power of friendship with all four of the beloved Frog and Toad I Can Read stories by Arnold Lobel — now in one volume!

This treasury includes the complete art and text from four classics: Frog and Toad Are Friends, Frog and Toad Together, Frog and Toad All Year, and Days with Frog and Toad.

No matter what kind of situation they find themselves in, one thing is certain: Frog and Toad will always be together.

Frogs, Toads & Turtles: Take Along Guide (Take Along Guides)

An introduction to the world of insects, caterpillars, and butterflies including identification information, educational activities, and fun facts.Invites young naturalists to spot wildlife.

A Frog Thing (with Audio CD)

Frank wasn’t satisfied doing ordinary frog things. He wanted to fly, but he was a frog and frogs can’t fly.

Follow along as Frank jumps and runs and leaps and dives until he finally finds his place in the pond.

The companion book on cd will transport you and your child into Frank’s world with sound effects and wonderful performances by children and adults.

City Dog, Country Frog

In spring, when City Dog runs free in the country for the first time, he spots Country Frog sitting on a rock, waiting for a friend.

“You’ll do,” Frog says, and together they play Country Frog games.

Through the seasons, whenever City Dog visits the country he runs straight for Country Frog’s rock.

In winter, things change for City Dog and Country Frog.

Come spring, friendship blooms again, a little different this time.

Hoppity Frog: A Slide-and-Seek Book

Where is Hoppity Frog? Is he playing in the reeds? No, that’s Downy Duckling.

Is he paddling through the pond? No, that’s Silky Swan!

Children will love pushing out the sturdy sliders on each page of this board book until they find Hoppity Frog!

If You Hopped Like A Frog

Did you know that a frog can jump 20 times its body length?

Or that an ant can lift an object 50 times its own weight?

By applying these ratios and proportions to their own bodies, readers will discover what they could do if they had the amazing abilities of animals.

Five Speckled Frogs (Sing-along Math Songs)

Five very hungry frogs are sitting on a very special log eating some most delicious bugs.

But something is making them jump right back in the water.

Sing along with paired text and music as you count backward from five to find out why.

Little Green Frog: Lift-a-Flap Board Book

Follow this little green frog and meet all the animals that live around the pond.

Simple sentences reinforce future language structure, and illustrations include lots of details to hold baby’s attention.

A Boy, a Dog, and a Frog

A boy and his dog go walking in the swamp.

They spot a frog in the water. Can they use a net to catch him?

We adore frogs! Seriously, there is nothing better than hearing a frog croaking when you’re out on a hike or at night when everything else is quiet. Have fun with those toddlers!
