Why Fall Leaves Change Color
While you’re working on this craft with your child, here’s a simple way to explain why fall leaves change color to your kid:
Imagine leaves are like nature’s paintbrushes. In the summertime, they’re busy making food for the tree, and they wear a beautiful green color, just like the leaves on your coloring book.
But when it starts to get cold in the fall, the tree gets ready for a long nap in the winter.
So, the leaves stop making food, and their green paint starts to fade away.

As the green goes away, we can see the other colors hiding underneath, like red, orange, and yellow.

That’s why the leaves change colors, to get ready for winter and make the tree strong and happy!
Which Fall Leaf Are You
For more fun, have the kids figure which leaf matches their personality!
Maple Leaf: If you’re vibrant, full of energy, and love the spotlight, you might be like a maple leaf. Maples are known for their brilliant red and orange colors.
Oak Leaf: Oak leaves are strong, dependable, and resilient. If you’re someone who stands firm in the face of challenges and values loyalty, you’re like an oak leaf.
Birch Leaf: Birch leaves are known for their simplicity and elegance. If you have a refined taste and appreciate the beauty in life’s simple things, you’re akin to a birch leaf.
Aspen Leaf: Aspen leaves are known for their uniqueness and individuality, as they shimmer in the wind. If you’re a free spirit and like to stand out from the crowd, you might be like an aspen leaf.
Willow Leaf: Willow leaves are graceful and flexible, just like those who are adaptable and go with the flow. If you’re easygoing and able to bend without breaking, you’re similar to a willow leaf.

Beech Leaf: Beech leaves are often the last to fall, indicating patience and determination. If you’re known for your persistence and ability to endure, you’re like a beech leaf.

Your child might identify with one type of leaf or a combination of characteristics from several leaves. It’s all just for fun!
