Grocery Store Books for Kids

Going to the grocery store was an absolute mess if I took my sons.

No matter what I said or did, they were always running through the aisles like a pack of wild wolves.

So what did I do? I first grabbed a bunch of books about going to the grocery store to change the conversation from being mad to being proactive.

Teaching Kids How to Behave at the Grocery Store with Books

Max Explains Everything: Grocery Store Expert

Max knows everything about trips to the grocery store because his parents make him go All. The. Time. Even when they run out of little things . . . like toilet paper. So he’s pretty much an expert.

Whether it’s choosing the right breakfast cereal or surviving the obstacle course that is the produce section, Max is here to help.

Max’s hilarious guide to the grocery store turns an everyday errand into an adventure.

At the Supermarket

In her signature style, Anne Rockwell conveys the adventure of a trip to the supermarket from a young child’s point-of-view.

On a special trip to the supermarket, a young boy helps his mom buy what they need.

There are meats, fruits, and vegetables to put in the shopping cart; soap and toilet paper, too.

But the most important ingredients are those needed to bake a birthday cake. Children love to help out at the grocery store.

Shopping With Dad

It’s Saturday, and one small girl and her Dad are heading for the supermarket while Mom is working. It’s so exciting! How can she contain herself?

She tries but she can’t! An enormous sneeze sets in motion a small calamity, and Dad gets the blame.

But when his daughter speaks up and takes responsibility for her actions, the mood changes.

Fast-paced, funny with a simple, uplifting message, this playful rhyming read-aloud is guaranteed to have you laughing out loud!

Maisy Goes Shopping

Charley and our favorite mouse make a trip to the grocery store to buy lots of goodies for lunch.

Wherever they go and whatever they do, Lucy Cousins’s lovable characters are a delight.

Just Shopping with Mom (A Golden Look-Look Book)

A perfect way to teach kids about being on their best behavior!

Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter is off to the grocery store with his mom and siblings in this classic, funny, and heartwarming book.

Whether he wants to push the cart, pick the best apples, or get his sister out of the candy aisle, both parents and children alike will relate to this beloved story.

Our Corner Grocery Store

Charmingly illustrated in great detail, Our Corner Grocery Store pays tribute to the small independent grocers who supply color and atmosphere to city streets.

Anna Maria takes great pleasure and pride in her grandparents’ corner grocery store.

Every Saturday she spends the day helping to arrange fruits and vegetables, greet the customers, and keep things neat and tidy.

Through her day we meet the neighbors and learn what an important part the corner grocery store plays in the community.

Dinosaurs in the Supermarket

There’s a T. rex gobbling sausages, a Stegosaurus spilling beans! A Diplodocus in the frozen peas fills the aisles with greens!

For one little boy, a trip to the supermarket is turned upside down.

A band of dinosaurs wreak havoc in the aisles, but the grown-ups can’t see them!

Can he convince the dinosaurs to behave? Who will mop up the mess?

What Happens at a Supermarket? (Where People Work)

Describes the kinds of work people do in the different departments of a supermarket!

    What a great idea!

My favorite was always the Richard Scarry : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/313375.What_Do_People_Do_All_Day_. But they have changed it in more recent years and do not show the one with the MOTHER pig and the ginormous grocery cart, LOL>

    Thanks and love,
