When Ring Toss Was Invented

Ring toss is a traditional game that has been played in various forms for centuries, and its exact origin is difficult to pinpoint.

The game’s origins are believed to date back to ancient civilizations, where people would toss rings or other objects onto a target, often for entertainment or as part of celebrations.

The modern version of ring toss, as we know it today, likely evolved over time. It became a popular carnival and fair game in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

During this period, ring toss games featuring bottles or other targets and rings made of various materials, including rubber, were commonly seen at fairs and amusement parks.

How to Play Corn Ring Toss Game

Corn ring toss is a fun and challenging outdoor game where corn cobs are used as the posts. Here’s how to play:

Materials Needed:

  1. Corn cobs (about 6-8)
  2. Rings (you can use plastic rings, rope rings or even glow sticks for nighttime play)
  3. Open outdoor space (like a yard or a park)

Setup:

Arrange the Corn Cobs: Stick the corn cobs firmly into the ground in a square or circular pattern. You can space them apart as needed, but make sure they are stable and won’t easily tip over when the rings are thrown. We husked one of the cobs and put it in the center.

Designate a Throwing Line: Mark a line on the ground a few feet away from the corn cobs. This line will be the throwing line from which players will toss the rings.

Gameplay:

Take Turns: Players take turns standing behind the throwing line and attempting to toss the rings onto the corn cobs. The objective is to ring the corn cobs by throwing the rings around them.

Scoring: Assign points to each corn cob. For example, you can give higher points for corn cobs that are farther away or more challenging to ring. You can also assign different point values to different-sized rings. It’s up to you! Keep a scorecard to record each player’s score.

Winning: The player with the highest total score after a predetermined number of rounds or tosses wins the game.

Variations: To make the game more interesting, you can add special rules or variations. For example, you can have a “blindfold round” where players must toss the rings blindfolded, or you can have a “long-distance round” where players step back a few extra feet for more challenging throws.
