I suggested my daughter be evaluated before 1st grade. I KNEW early on there was something that just wasn’t connecting. She wanted SO badly to learn but it was a continually struggle. We were lucky enough to have a teacher that she was being promoted to, willing to take the time to do what it took. My daughter is now in 7th grade, only held back once which ended up being the best thing. She still has to work hard but nothing like before. She is resourceful, hard working & determined so much more than my older child that was always in gifted & talented programs & graduated 6th in her senior class. My dyslexic child inspires me every day!

He has trouble identifying letters,numbers and memorizing. Yes a hard time writing coloring with in the line,take speech theraphy along with other problems

My FIL is also dyslexic, and while I don’t know what treatments were around when he was a young kid, he has managed to become an uber professionally successful business man. Thank you for your supporting words! School is still such a struggle even though he has become an avid book reader. I think the difference is he can do it at his own pace. I worry for him — but that just means I’m doing my job 😀

At 13, my son still hates it. I too, am completely baffled why teachers and reading specialists don’t identify dyslexia, and many do have no clue about it. Do you know the website Understood.org? Awesome for parents of kiddos with learning and attention issues.
