For Christmas, we received live lobsters!
They weren’t actually in the box we received. Instead, we chose a weekend for them to be delivered.
They arrived in a styrofoam box packed with ice… and they were alive!
The boys were absolutely freaked out and fascinated at the same time.
We kept them in the refrigerator for the night and cooked them up the next evening.
Before preparing them for dinner, I let the boys check out the lobsters more closely.
They were really fascinated with the lobsters’ hard shells and long antennae.
It was a terrific science lesson, talking about what lobsters eat, how/where they live and why they have such hard shells.

Thanks for another great party!! Hope you have an awesome week!
Yummy! I love lobster. Were the boys worried about eating them after seeing them crawling around?
They actually refuse seafood…. but not because of the lobsters π They’ll come around soon enough!
The best kind of science lesson. Hands On.
Sounds like a great lesson! Thanks for hosting & God bless!
What a fun way to learn about lobsters.
Cambodian lobsters don’t grow that big!
What a great gift! A bit unusual, but it would certainly be well received at our place π
Definitely unusual but fun!
Where’d you get the lobsters from? Hopefully from Maine! We like to race ours. Loser goes into the pot first. π
Jennifer, We only eat Maine lobsters! We’re coming in May!
Yay! Where will you be? Did we talk about this before? I can’t remember!
LOL! Of course they came from Maine! Do they come from anywhere else π We tried racing them but these guys were pretty tired from their trip.
Good answer! And I guess ours are a bit fresher here. π I don’t even eat them, I just like racing other people’s lobsters!
I remember one year we got lobsters flown in to us from Newfoundland. It was a gift from my step-brother. They were so good! Lobster has to be my favorite sea food of all time. Hope that you enjoyed yours.
Oh my goodness. They were so delicious! Quite a treat π
Oh, how I love lobsters. But I’ll only eat them in Maine!
It reminds me of the scene from Annie Hall when Diane Keaton and Woody Allen let them loose in the kitchen.
I hope they were delicious, too!
A fun Wordless Wednesday post!
These were actually shipped directly from a merchant in Maine!
Hi Jenny, lobster’s look so scary when live and not cooked, but boy they have to be my favorite! Have a great day!
I grew up on the East Coast and we used to cook like lobsters so I was used to them. but I can see how they would seem kind of freaky. π
Love their reactions! π
Ich kΓΆnnte nie im Leben einen lebendigen Hummer zubereiten !
Mit tut das Tier einfach zu sehr leid.
Aber ich glaube schon, dass er gut geschmeckt hat.

Jutta — I grew up on the on the East Coast and grew up handling live lobsters for dinner. But I can see how it would seem scary.
Oh my goodness! Were they able to eat them after seeing them alive? I would probably be freaked out, too but I do love lobster!
Happy WW!

Well, my boys just refuse to eat seafood in general. Fish is about all they’ll handle right now. But it’s only a matter of time until they figure out how good shrimp and lobster are.
So cool! Every Christmas Eve we have lobster burgers. It has been a tradition in my husband’s family all his life and we carry it on now with our kids.

I believe, that your boys were absolutely freaked out and fascinated at the same time. I’m freakcinatet too. hahaha Great photos from your lobster.
Thanks for sharing, for hosting this nice project and happy wednesevening, Wieczora (ββΏβ) | my photoblog
You’re right on the money! They were COMPLETELY freaked out and fascinated. Me being so comfortable holding the lobsters made them a little more relaxed though. π
Our kids always liked going by the seafood area in the grocery store when they were small. It is rather fascinated to see them up close, but I’ll just stick to having lobster in a restaurant. lol
Yeah, it is an undertaking getting them live and then cooking them. This is about as “far out” as I go with cooking food.
Unusual but definitely lobstertastic π
What an exciting dinner! Although I would probably make Mr. Sexy cook the lobsters. And I would make the kids help. But I’m not sure I could handle doing that myself. haha I’m really in the mood for lobster now though…
I grew up on the East Coast and my friends I would get together on the weekends to cook lobsters. So I was used to it. My husband was the one a bit freaked out!
Great way for the boys to learn, and hope they tasted good too!
The lobsters tasted awesome…. just a little butter and perfection!
