Do you have a kid or early teen who suffers from anxiety? There’s a new online program designed to speak directly to kids with anxiety to help them understand and control their worries.
When GoZen! approached me about checking out their online program, I was intrigued. A program geared toward kids to help them to face and manage their anxiety? Anyone who has a kiddo with anxiety understands that it’s not so simple to help our kids out.
GOZEN! PROGRAM DESIGNED TO SPEAK TO KIDS with Anxiety
My 8 year old, Vman, certainly has some of his own anxiety — much in thanks to his Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD. They keep his body on high alert. I wondered what he would think of the program.
When I approached Vman about sitting down with me and going through some of the program, I honestly wasn’t sure what he would say. Thanks to the free trial I was provided, I showed him an introduction to the program and he instantly said yes! He really liked that the video was animated and obviously designed for kids like him.
It’s obvious the makers of GoZen! have thought about their audience — which is kids. The program definitely speaks directly to kids, and my son responded. Take a sneak peak by seeing some clips from the actual program itself.
The GoZen! program is broken down into digestible modules that your kid can do every several days, depending on how quickly they want to go through the series. Your kid will watch a video, answer questions and play games about what they just watched.
While I understand that this program can be used with younger children, it’s really geared toward kids ages 7-14. If your child has reading issues like mine, take that into account. Vman and I sat down together and went through the questions as a team because reading is tough for him. We used it as a great excuse to cuddle up on the couch together and have some hanging out time.
One of the first videos we did was about social anxiety and really connected with Vman. He had recently had to do a presentation in front of the class and was quite the mess about it. In fact, the first time he tried to do the presentation he froze.
As a parent, it’s easy for me to say how hard talking in front of others can be, but it doesn’t make it easier for him. Watching the video let him know he isn’t the only one that runs into worries like this.
WIDDLE THE WORRYER
Widdle, who is the worryer, and Til, who is the thinker. Press the Widdle doll’s chest and he talks positive affirmations. At first, my boys kind of giggled at the doll, and I thought, well that’s that. Wrong!
We’ve had Widdle in our house for several weeks and he keeps floating between my 8 and 6 year olds. When I asked Vman what he specifically liked about Widdle, he said that Widdle’s hair was crazy soft. And I hear Widdle’s voice when the boys are in the other room — so they are obviously interacting with the doll even when I’m not looking.
